Hooked On NZ uses nine trout fishing fly patterns for their earrings.

The patterns themselves are unique to New Zealand, having been tried and tested against the famous Rainbow & Brown Trout in lakes & rivers throughout New Zealand.

These designs are used to mimic small fish or Koura (fresh water crayfish) in the hope of catching that elusive trout.

The most popular well known fly have been chosen. The variety of colour and their beauty have been lovingly made into earrings for you to enjoy, instead of just the fish.

Jack Sprat

Tied using reflective tape to attract trout, this fly mimics a small fish and is good at lake edges when smelt come in to the shallows to spawn.

Ginger Mick

Distinguished by its ginger hackle close to the hook eye and copper body winds, the Ginger Mick is a popular fly on the Rotorua lakes.

Woolly Bugger

This pattern is a versatile fly, best used at night in large rivers and still, discoloured water.

Mrs Simpson

Tied with squirrel tail and pheasant feathers, this fly mimics a small Cockabully–small native fish trout love to feed on. A must have fly, great in both daylight and dark.

Rabbit

Made with rabbit fur, this fly gives a rippling effect on the water, immitating a small fish. Great for day use for sea run trout at river mouths.

Green Orbit

Named after it’s distinctive olive colour, the Green Orbit is a smelt imitation and a favourite fly on central North Island lakes.

Red Setter

One of New Zealand’s most effective trout flies. A top fly for rivers and lakes alike and works well at night.

Grey Ghost

Tied with silver tinsel and reflective flash tape, a Grey Ghost looks like trout fry or whitebait–a popular food source for trout in Taupo and Canterbury. Best used when the water is clear.

Parsons Glory

Made with distinctive mottled honey grizzle feathers, best used on lakes in bright daylight when smelt are running on lake edge.
